Publications, Interviews, and Reviews​

  • Chloe N. Clark has a new poem, “A Reward for You and the Ones I Don’t Think You Need,” in Occulum.

  • Devin Kelly's poem “This, a Gospel” appears in America: The Jesuit Review:

  • Kathleen Rooney is interviewed about her new project Rene Magritte: Selected Writings in Hyperallergic.

  • Meghan Phillips’ “Potential Energy is Stored for the Future” has won (b)OINK’s 2017 Postcard Poetry Contest. She is also featured on Episode 5 of Fear No Lit’s “Show Your Work” podcast.

  • Kristine Langley Mahler published two essays: “I Will Not Die For You” in The Rumpus and an erasure piece in issue 6.2 of Storm Cellar.

  • Melissa Goode had a busy September, with “Butterscotch” appearing in Reflex Fiction, “Their Wings Outstretched and Wide” in Literary Orphans,  “Michael Stipe Knows Everything” in WhiskeyPaper, and “The Body of a Man” in Lost Balloon.

  • Cathy Ulrich's “What a Headless Boy Would See” appears at jmww and “Maybe in the Clouds, Maybe in the Stars” appears in Hypertrophic Literary.

  • Flash reader Lori Sambol Brody's story “The Girls at the Kaiulani Resort” also appears in Hypertrophic Literary.

  • Alina Stefanescu has two poems, “Marital Milestone" and “At the Buddhist Poetry Reading," and a story, “Thirty Minutes, ” in Issue 18 of Flock.

  • Poetry reader Bob Sykora has a poem, “Fixer Upper,” in The Shallow Ends.

  • Woody Evans' piece “Widdershins with the Confederate Dead” appears at The Dentonite.

  • Kaj Tanaka's story “Live Stream” is up at 3:AM Magazine, and his story "Left Behind" appears at FLAPPERHOUSE.

  • We were thrilled to see so much of the FAM in the new issue of Third Point Press, including:

    • Julian K. Jarboe's story “The Marks of Aegis” 

    • Todd Dillard's poems “Fat Boy” & “Why Would You Want a Dried Hand?” 

    • Beth Gilstrap & Jim Warner's collaborations “Dischord No. 15,” “Dischord No. 60,” & “Revelation 073” 

    • Amorak Huey's poem “Prayer for What I Do Not Want” 

  • The FAM was also well-represented in the latest issue of (b)OINK zine, including:

    • Devin Kelly's poem “After Leaving the Funeral of My Friend’s Father, I Don’t Know How to Deal With the Sound of Us Crying” 

    • Doug Paul Case's essay “Architecture” 

    • Melissa Wiley's essay “Chicken Woman”

    • Timston Johnston's story “for daws to peck” 

  • ​And the FAM makes a strong showing in the September issue of Glass: A Journal of Poetry, including:

    • Amorak Huey's review of Donna Vorreyer’s The Girl in

    • Michael Schmeltzer's poem “Unmade Sheets Like the Mess of This Universe”

    • Chance Dibben's poem “Invasive Species”

  • Kathryn McMahon's story “Twelve Things Only the Mosquitos Know” appears in Cease, Cows. 

  • Mike Nagel's piece “Object Permanence” is in the latest issue of DIAGRAM.

 

Awards, Honors, and News

  • Diannely Antigua’s “Ugly Music” has won YesYes Books’ 2017 Pamet River Prize.

  • Tyler Barton’s “K” has been nominated for Best of the Net by Waxwing Magazine.

  • Meghan Phillips’ “Mayflies” has been nominated for both Pushcart and Best of the Net by Cheap Pop.

  • Gayle Brandeis has been named Antioch University Los Angeles’ 2017 Distinguished Alumna of the Year.

  • Third Point Press nominated managing editor Amy Rossi's "The Calliope Crashed" and flash fiction reader Lori Sambol Brody's "Butterfly" for Best of the Net.
